When I went to see Zombieland in theaters with my uncle, Jonathan McDonald (797789), I saw the new preview for 2012. The new preview makes the movie look like it might be good, despite it being based on a completely made up event (both the scientific community and the Mayan culture agree that it is just pseudoscience [which is the scientific term for something that claims to be scientific, but is actually fake] and a misinterpretation of the Mayan calendar). Here is the new trailer that I was talking about:

Re: 2012
I love movies like that. Though I agree 2012 may be a little blown up, and every previous supposedly predicted doomsday type event has come up blank.. you never know. There's a first for everything~
There's a lot more happening around that year that can change our lives than just that prediction though, and things that have already begun.

Re: 2012
The trailer kind of reminded me of The Day After Tomorrow.
Now then, as for you saying "There is a first time for everything.", well that doesn't work for this, since this is not their first time pulling a stunt like this.

Re: 2012
It's from the makers of The Day After Tomorrow.
You can't really compare Y2K to an end of the world event like 2012. Even though to a lot of people it may have seemed like that, Y2K was just a computer 'bug' that could easily be prevented. Even though it caused quite a hype, I still feel it was blown out of proportion, kinda like 2012 may be.
What I mean by there's a first for everything was that there's always a first time in the sense of something like that being predicted, and actually ending up being true. People can predict all they want, but in my opinion, the future is never set in stone.

Re: 2012
Actually you can, people thought the world would end in Y2K. People even went into nuclear bunkers. Now they are doing the same thing for Y2.12K. Have we not learned from our mistakes? If nothing happened the first time, then what the hell makes you think something will happen the second time?Yuushi wrote:It's from the makers of The Day After Tomorrow.

Re: 2012
A lot of people are considering a lot more factors this time than something like Y2K. Y2K was more of a paranoia, whereas people think the Mayan calendar actually ends on that date for a reason. There's a lot more that comes into play with the thought of the year 2012 being the end of time, or the beginning of something new, or even beginning on that date, than just the Mayan calendar.kevin1gamer wrote:Actually you can, people thought the world would end in Y2K. I'm not a firm believer in it, but I don't really care much for the fact people who actually do strongly believe that to be the end of times(taking it waaay into context). Nothing obviously will make them change their mind, and there is no way anyone can say that something will, or will not happen. Yes we can learn from past mistakes, but as I said, there is a first time for everything. Someone could happen around that date or year. No one knows for sure. If scientists still can't understand fully why we as humans need to sleep, I seriously doubt they can predict the future considering it's thought to be always changing with each choice made.
Lots of things happen around 2012. There's no denying the state Earth is in, the melting ice caps, the polar shifts, weather increase, temperatures rising all over the planet, sun going into a cycle of increased activity for sunspots, weakening of earths magnetic field(which is a serious issue when it comes to the sun having such a jump up in activity right when this is happening.)
So yes, people may have reason to think the world could be ending, but personally I doubt it would happen on that particular day, but take a long time to actually happen completely.
There's also the theory our sun could have a companion, making it a binary star system. Which could affect Earth in a lot of ways were another star, bigger or smaller to come so close or into our solar system.
Either way though, if nothing does happen, oh wells. If something does, there is likely no way we can change the course of events.
